1977年于中山医学院医疗系毕业后,在医科院药物所药理专业班学习,曾在美国Texas A&M大学医学院进修。40余年来在药物所从事抗糖尿病相关药理学及新药研发。先后负责"九五"国家攀登计划、国家及北京市自然科学基金、国家新药基金、国家重大新药创制等项目,以及数十项横向课题。作为负责人或主要参与人,获新药证书7个和上市注册批件2个,2020.3月获批的创新药物—桑枝总生物碱片,为国内首个植物有效组分降血糖原创天然药物。申请专利50余项,授权20余项;获卫生部科技进步奖1项、中华医学会科技进步奖3项、北京市科学技术奖3项、教育部科技进步奖1项、国家科技进步奖1项;发表论文200余篇,参编论著21部。培养研究生等近50名。是享受国务院特贴专家。

专注于防治糖尿病及其慢性并发症(肾脏、眼和神经)、肥胖、高脂血症等多种代谢性疾病的药理学及新药研发工作。包括体内外模型和技术方法建立、药理作用机制、新靶点、药效学评价、新药发现等。涉及植物药与中药、中药复方、化药以及生物制品;涵盖α-葡萄糖苷酶抑制剂、重组/口服胰岛素、GLP-1类似物、胰岛素增敏剂、DPP-4抑制剂、GK激活剂、SGLT2抑制剂、FBPase抑制剂、PCSK9抑制剂、HMG-CoA抑制剂、G蛋白偶联受体激动剂、醛糖还原酶抑制剂以及多靶点作用等。
