Department of New Drug R&D

 

The Department of New Drug R&D is a comprehensive department in the Institute of Materia Medica focusing on the research and development of new and existing drugs. The research team consists of more than 30 scientists, technician and graduate students in the fields of medicinal chemistry, analytical chemistry and pharmaceutics. Most of them have extensive experience in drug research and development.
The department has established a well-equipped platform for the R & D of drugs. For the synthesis and crystallization process development, the department is equipped with advanced instruments for synthesis and separation including Non-isothermal parallel synthesizer (Redlys), EasyMax Synthesis and crystallization research instrument (Mettler-Toledo), Particle size analyzer, Online infrared analyzer, Micro-reactor instrument of Bayer, Flow hydrogenation apparatus, autoclave, Microwave synthesizer, Molecular distillation instrument, ultralow temperature instrument, Simulated moving bed ( Bayer), and freeze dryer, etc.. In addition, the Department is also equipped with advanced instruments for analytical and pharmaceutical research, including UPLC-MS spectrometer (Waters), more than 10 analytic and preparative high performance liquid chromatography, Automatic dissolution tester (Hansen), electric tablet machine, Tablet tester (hardness, friability, disintegration ), Automatic titrator, Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer(TGA)and Differential thermal analyzer (DSC) (Mettler-Toledo). With the fully equipped laboratories, the Department can provide A to Z solutions for the development of generic drugs except for manufacture verification.
In the R & D of generic drugs: The department has established extensive cooperation with pharmaceutical industries. More than 30 drug certificates were authorized by the China Food and Drug Administration and launched in the market, such as ondansetron hydrochloride. Above all, The Department is specialized in the synthesis and analysis of chiral drugs, process development of drug crystallization, study of drug trace impurities, and enjoys great prestige in these fields.
In the discovery of new drugs: In recent years, the department has successively undertaken several projects supported by the government including National Mega-project for Innovative Drugs program, National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program), National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Science and Technology Support Program, Clinton Foundation and Doctoral Fund of Ministry of Education of China (RFDP), etc.. More than 100 papers were published in the domestic and international journals. More than 30 patents were applied and more than 30 graduate students have graduated.
