Department of Drug Delivery System

The Department of Drug Delivery System, the key discipline and the doctoral program of the Ministry of Education, is an important subject of drug discovery system in Institute of Materia Medica (IMM). There are a lot of advanced instruments and equipment in the lab in addition to those in common platforms of IMM. During the past five years, the department has undertaken many major projects at national, provincial and ministerial grades as well as projects from NIH in U.S. The novel technological platforms for Drug Delivery System (DDS) in the department lay foundations for the design of new drugs and the exploration of novel preparations. Based on the Department of Drug Delivery System, Beijing Key Laboratory of Drug Delivery Technology and Novel Formulations, was approved to establish in May 2011.
The main research in the department focuses on developing advanced technology in pharmaceutics, exploring and modifying novel carriers for drug delivery, and eventually investigating in vivo release behaviors and their mechanisms. The research aim is to break through the limitations of physicochemical and pharmacokinetic properties in the development of new drugs and preparations. The department strives to establish the new technological platforms for Drug Delivery System (DDS) with a broad applicability in the lab. Also, the department colleagues manage to develop the design of novel pharmaceutical preparations and drugs, and to develop new pharmaceutical preparations with independent intellectual property rights and high added value, which are characterized with high bioavailability, controlled release, tumor targeting and delivery of biological macromolecules.
