State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substance and Function of Natural Medicines

 

The State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substance and Function of Natural Medicines (SKLBSFNM), approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology on March 29, 2011, was established on the foundation of the Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substances and Resources Utilization of Chinese Herbal Medicines (The Ministry of Education), the Key Laboratory of Biosynthesis of Natural Products (The Ministry of Health), and State Key Subject of Pharmacy.
SKLBSFNM has 74 staff members working on the discovery, structure elucidation, chemical synthesis, biosynthesis, structural modification, druggability, molecular mechanism, and pharmacokinetics of bioactive substances of natural medicines, and the development of related new technologies and methods. The director of SKLBSFNM is Prof. Yu Shishan. The chairman of the academic committee is Prof. Yu Dequan(Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering).
The major research fields of SKLBSFNM are as followings:
1. The discovery of bioactive substances of natural medicines.
2. The druggability of bioactive substances of natural medicines.
3. The development of new technologies and methods.
The operation policy of the laboratory is “Open, Exchange, Cooperation and Competition.” SKLBSFNM is an integration of advanced resources, knowledge support and improved research platforms and systems. Its tasks are to discover bioactive substances with novel structures and unique functions, to optimize their structures and clarify their molecular mechanisms. The main efforts will be given to druggability research for cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, etc. SKLBSFNM will endeavor to establish a platform of academic exchange and cooperation between domestic and foreign peers. The goal of SKLBSFNM is to create a favorable environment, bring in high level pharmaceutical professionals and play a key role in the field of drug discovery.
